A Guide To
Audemars Piguet Watches

Audemars Piguet is the world’s oldest fine watch manufacturer still owned by the founding families. Started in 1875 by Jules Loius Audemars and Edward Auguste Piguet, the brand is renowned for its distinctive style, innovative movements and creative design. AP was renowned for its innovation from the outset and is responsible for many firsts in the world of horology. They created the first minute-repeater in 1892, the first ‘Grande Complication’ pocket watch in 1889, the first skeleton watch in 1934 and the world’s thinnest movement in 1946.

And the innovations continue to this day - they created a whole new genre when they launched the first high-end sports watch, the Royal Oak, in 1972. This was followed by the world’s first automatic ‘Grande Complication’ in 1996 and the first carbon case watch, the Royal Oak Carbon Concept in 2008.

Designed with creativity and freedom

Audemars Piguet timepieces are instantly recognisable thanks to their unique and elegant design. Each watch represents a window into the era it was created, with many echoing formative design movements such as the classic art deco series and the avant-garde Royal Oak. Each watch is carefully crafted from the inside out to create a harmonic mix of lines and shapes. There is no room for tradition here, ground-breaking designs are drawn from the imagination while materials are expertly layered to create horological perfection.

Both new and used Audemars Piguet watches represent the very best of high-horology. They give owners the chance to experience the craftsmanship and elegance of these most beautiful of timepieces first hand. There are many other high-horology brands but few have the history, uniqueness of design and uncompromising devotion to quality as Audemars Piguet.

Timepieces that surpass technical boundaries

Audemars Piguet watches are not just beautiful and functional - they represent the very best of mechanical watchmaking. The company is responsible for many groundbreaking innovations, including the world’s first fully automatic ‘Grande Complication’ launched at Baselworld in 1996.

The brand is also one of the few Swiss watch manufacturers to make each and every component in-house. Each gear, screw, bridge, spring, jewel and crown is lovingly created and assembled by a team of craftsmen in Le Brassus, Switzerland. As a result, a complete watch takes between 6-8 months to assemble with even the cases milled by hand from solid ingots.

Iconic watch collections

There is a wide variety of both men's and ladies Audemars Piguet watches available, making it almost impossible to name them all. But like all high-horology brands, AP has a handful of iconic watch collections which are highly desired for their craftsmanship and beauty.

Royal Oak

Characterised by its unique hexagonal case and exposed screw-heads, the Royal Oak became one of the most iconic men's Audemars Piguet watches when it was launched in 1972. Regarded as the world’s first luxury sports watch, it was originally only available with a stainless steel case and bracelet. But the range has expanded considerably since then with a choice of precious metals and ladies' models now available.

The Millenary

The Millenary is a three-dimensional take on the traditional wristwatch. It is easily identified thanks to its oval case, off-centre dials and domed sapphire crystal. The unique design allows more of the movement to be visible through the sapphire crystal, making this a watch for the purist.

Jules Audemars

The Jules Audemars collection is a homage to one of the original founders. The collection is typified by its classic circular shape with cases available in a range of materials. This collection is also reserved for some of the brand's best movements including the Grande Complication and minute repeater.

Code 11:59

Code 11:59 is the latest addition to the AP family. Launched at Baselworld in 2019, this contemporary take on a classic wristwatch has already become a favourite among collectors. The collection contains chronograph, perpetual calendar and turbillion models which are enclosed in a three-piece case with a hexagonal central band. The watch also features a unique curved sapphire crystal which gives a clear wider view of the dial.
